The Surgical Technology (ST) program prepares students to work as Surgical Technologists. A Surgical Technologist is an allied health professional who works as part of the surgical team to ensure the operating room procedures are conducted under optimal conditions. Before an operation, surgical technologists (ST) help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment including sterile drapes, and sterile solutions. Coordinating with the operating room schedule, STs assemble equipment and check it to ensure it is working properly and ready for surgery. During surgery, technologists anticipate the need for, and pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and their team members. STs may hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. Some technicians operate sterilizers, lights, or suction machines, and help operate diagnostic equipment. After an operation, Surgical Technologists may help transfer patients to the recovery room and prepare the operating room for the next case. 3 Campus Locations: Grand Prairie, TX Houston, TX North Houston, TX
